Happy Tuesday! I am posting this later than desired, but glad I was able to get it done. Stories for today include warnings about fake Ice agents; Don Cheadle working to save the world off screen; an inspiring wellness focused weight loss journey; why so many Black women are considered kinless; and baby, that’s KeKe Palmer in a new movie now streaming on your tv.
Stay Ready: Fake Ice Agents
I have a theory. I don’t think all the men and women identified as ICE agents by the media and Trump officials are real ICE agents. Why do I think this? Because of how many of them can be seen in recent videos hiding their faces with masks. Add to that the fact that they are showing up in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles. Some might say the clothes and cars are because they want to maintain an element of surprise. But why cover the faces?
These ‘agents’ have been in the news because of the ongoing illegal abductions and deportations of people from the US. Hundreds that we know of, but I would not be surprised if the numbers are much higher. Given the lies and disreguard for the law by the Trump adminstration, I’ve believe nothing they say should be taken at face value. So why should we just believe that these “agents” are the real thing?
Again, I should reiterate this is just a theory… but I did a little research and found that there is criminal activity in at least a few states with fake ICE agents running scams. They are calling folks who are concerned about being deported and convincing them to share personal information like bank account numbers, social security numbers and more. You can read more here.
Humans Were Here: Don Cheadle Wants To Save The Planet In Real Life
Just when I didn’t think I could love Don Cheadle more, I discovered he is a superhero in the fight against climate change. Cheadle is a goodwill ambassador for the UN Environment Program, and he’s also on the board for the Solutions Project (founded by fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo), which is working to battle climate justice in 45 states. In a recent interview he shared that when it comes to climate disasters, “…we know that in situations like these, those who are most vulnerable and have the least representation are the ones who are going to be most damaged and have the least ability to bounce back.” Here’s more about Cheadle’s work to save the planet and what sparked his interest in this work.
My Body, My Mind: 3 Day Wellness Reset for April
Today was the first of my 3 Day Wellness Reset for April. I do this for the first 3 days of every month. The goal is to encourage people who need a little motivation to get back on or step up their plans for wellness. This morning for day 1, I had an inspirational conversation with the owner of Quinnie’s Kitchen. Quinnie runs a wellness center and helps clients to overcome illnesses with holistic lifestyle changes. Quinnie share tips on how to prioritize our health and how she managed to achieve a life changing wellness goal of her own. Here is our conversation:
Inside Her Story: Black Women Who Are Kinless
Kinless refers to people who have no spouse or biological children, and according to a new study, a disproportionate number of Black women fall into this category. I am actually, by this definition, kinless. Although I don’t feel that way, since I have my mother, sister, and many living relatives. Researchers determined ‘kinless’ refers to people who don’t have relatives who are most likely to serve as caregivers. Here is a read that breaks down the study.
